全球首富馬斯克稍早時在Twitter上表示將會收購英超球隊曼聯。
其後有網民留言問「是否認真？」，馬斯克回應：「不，這只是Twitter上的一個老笑話。我不買任何運動隊伍。（No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams）」不過馬斯克隨後補充，「如果是任何一支球隊，那將是曼聯。那是我小時候最喜歡的球隊。（Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid.）」。
馬斯克其後又向另一個老笑話「抽水」，他稱，「我也不會為了把可卡因放回去而買可口可樂，儘管這樣的舉動非常受歡迎。（And I’m not buying Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in, despite the extreme popularity of such a move）」。
